Biography
Serhan Yorganci was born on February 8, 1986 in Istanbul. He studied Media and Communication Systems at Istanbul Bilgi University and later entered the world of media and creative advertising. That early work shaped the way he thinks about storytelling and eventually guided him toward animation and independent filmmaking.
He lives and works in Istanbul, where he writes, directs and produces his projects. Serhan came to animation after spending years developing live action stories that were difficult to finance. One of those ideas was a film about how children understand the value of money in a world where cash is disappearing. When the project could not move forward through traditional production, he chose a different path and decided to make the film himself as a 3D animated feature.
Without a formal background in animation, he began teaching himself every part of computer generated filmmaking. Working mostly alone in a small studio, he spent years designing characters, building environments and learning how to move the camera, light a scene and shape performances frame by frame. That long and sometimes difficult process eventually became his first feature, Square Heads.
Serhan founded Digitoons in Istanbul to give a home to this independent work. At Digitoons, he oversees writing, direction and production while also contributing to layout, editing and the overall visual approach. His work blends a practical understanding of audiences with a personal interest in how children experience technology, value and friendship.
Square Heads
Square Heads is a family friendly animated comedy that follows a close group of kids whose lives shift in unexpected ways after they find a strange watch that seems to change time. The film mixes absurd humor with a playful sense of world building and looks at how children try to make sense of money, debt and responsibility while growing up in a world where almost everything happens digitally.
The project was developed and produced outside the traditional studio system and was completed fully independently. Serhan Yorganci carried the film from the first script pages to the final picture and took part in every stage of the process. He shaped the story, supervised the animation and managed the technical work needed to deliver a full length animated feature.
After its completion, Square Heads secured licensing deals with international digital platforms and began reaching audiences in different countries through video on demand and streaming services. As it continues to screen on new platforms and at festivals, the film keeps finding new viewers around the world.
Festivals and Industry Recognition
Square Heads has been selected for international industry events that highlight new voices in animation and independent cinema. Festival and market participation includes:
- Cartoons on the Bay . Panorama section
- Ischia Global Film and Music Festival
These selections brought the film to the attention of programmers, distribution platforms and animation professionals, helping establish Yorganci as a new independent voice working in feature animation.
Filmmaking Approach
Yorganci is drawn to stories that seem simple at first glance but hold deeper questions about how children move through systems that adults no longer question. Themes like money, time, screens and everyday social rules often appear in his work as playful elements that slowly reveal their emotional weight.
Since he writes, directs and produces his own projects, he sees a film as a single continuous journey that begins with the first idea and ends with the final version that reaches an audience. This hands on way of working gives him room to experiment with tone and rhythm in the edit while staying close to the small details in the performances of his animated characters.
Current and Future Work
Following the completion of Square Heads, Yorganci has continued to focus on new feature length animated films that come from the same interest in friendship, value and the way children make sense of the world around them. He is developing original stories for cinema and shaping new characters and settings that can carry his next long projects, taking the time to explore ideas that feel honest and personal to him.
